WVC celebrates Native American Heritage Month with events Nov. 17 and 18

In acknowledgment and recognition of Native American Heritage Month, WVC will be hosting virtual events on Nov. 17 and 18. These events are free and open to the public. Participants should register in advance at wvc.edu/CampusLifeEvents.

On Nov. 17 from 12-2 p.m., there will be a virtual presentation entitled, “The Indian Boarding and Residential School Experience: Healing in a Time of Truth and Justice” with national speaker Dr. Martina Whelshula and boarding school survivor Yvonne Swan. Dr. Whelshula and Swan are members of the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. Topics of discussion will include history of Indian/residential schools, intergenerational trauma and healing.

On Nov. 18 from 3-4 p.m. the conversation will continue with international speaker Bev Sellars (member of Xat’sull First Nations Band in Canada). Sellars is a residential school survivor and author of the award-winning book, “They Called Me Number One.”
(11월 18일 오후 3시-4시까지는 국제 연사 Bev Sellars(캐나다 Xat'sull First Nations Band 회원)와의 대화가 계속됩니다. 참고로 Sellars는 기숙학교의 생존자이자 수상 경력에 빛나는 책 "그들은 나를 넘버원으로 불렀습니다"의 저자이기도 합니다.)
